HOW TECHNOLOGY ENHANCES EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE THROUGH SERVICES

Industry leader insights: Nicole Mangarella

Employee Experience (EX) is the sum of all the interactions, feelings, and perceptions that employees have about their work and their employer. EX encompasses everything from the physical environment in the workplace, the tools and technologies the employees utilize, the company’s culture and values, as well as the learning and development opportunities available.

Research from Gallup has shown the value that a positive EX can create - engaged and motivated employees results in 23% higher profitability and 43% lower employee turnover. So, with our clients’ EX in mind, the SPS Nexus platform offers a user-friendly solution to service management, allied with state-of-the-art digital innovation.

Good morning Nicole and welcome back to Switzerland. It's been a while since we last chatted about technology trends! How are you doing?

I’m doing great! It’s always exciting to talk about what we’re doing with technology in support of Enterprise Workplace Services. The big news is we’ve recently launched our service-focused Workplace Experience platform, SPS Nexus. It’s in the pilot stage now and we’re working with operational SMEs and technology partners to expand its capabilities – it’s a really exciting time for us!

It’s always great to hear about new SPS innovations! Tell us more, what is SPS Nexus? How can it help employees engage with key services?

SPS Nexus was a direct result of feedback from clients – one of the most common pain points we heard was that employees often find it difficult to access the support services needed to do their best work.

SPS Nexus is a response to that challenge. It’s a one-stop-shop platform that allows easy access to key workplace services via a web portal and mobile apps. It brings together multiple backend systems that are used to process these tasks and links them together so that the experience for the user is simple, seamless, and effective.

For example, let’s imagine that you need to book a team meeting. There’s more to it than just reserving the conference room – there’s arranging the room set up, connecting with the conferencing tools, registering external guests, and scheduling catering. Typically, this means logging into one system for the room reservation, a separate ticketing system to request room setup and AV support, another system for registering visitors, and a fourth system to order the catering – and if that gets rescheduled you have to do it all over again!

Scheduling that same meeting using SPS Nexus means booking everything on one platform. It gives time back to employees and lets them focus on their strategic work rather than admin.

And with real-time connections into backend systems, employees have full visibility of the requests they make. An employee can use SPS Nexus to request a print job and the SPS design team will receive, prioritize, and update the request as they complete it. It’s a safe and secure way to communicate with the SPS team.

SMART PLATFORMS LIKE SPS NEXUS ARE A WAY FOR COMPANIES AND THEIR EMPLOYEES TO ACCESS WORKPLACE SERVICES IN A MORE FLEXIBLE, CONVENIENT WAY. THAT’S VALUABLE ACROSS ANY BUSINESS.

Nicole Mangarella

So SPS Nexus is a service management platform for everything and everyone, that allows real-time connection between different departments and services? What kind of benefits can a solution like Nexus bring?

Smart platforms like SPS Nexus are a way for companies and their employees to access workplace services in a more flexible, convenient way. That’s valuable across any business.

The obvious benefit is higher productivity. Bringing together multiple services on a single platform reduces the amount of time employees spend requesting and tracking support tasks – that means you get more value from your employees’ time.

Beyond productivity, employees that have an easier time interacting with their workplace services will report a much higher job satisfaction. Ultimately, productive and happy employees lead to a high retention rate, with a smooth onboarding process for new hires as an added benefit.

Thirdly, SPS Nexus acts as a secure place for employees to store preferences so that their needs can be accommodated seamlessly, enabling greater inclusivity. Things like dietary preferences, accessibility accommodations, communication preferences, and proximity to areas like restrooms, mother’s rooms, and cafes all make an employee’s experience more comfortable and helps them feel supported.

Finally, SPS Nexus gives you easy task-tracking and full transparency of spending, meaning you can be sure you’re paying the lowest cost for your workplace services. Employees can connect and interact with business support services securely via digital channels, enabling work to be performed in lower cost locations without sacrificing quality.

Thank you for running us through those Nicole – there’s real potential to empower your employees using SPS Nexus! On that topic, last year we were discussing the battle for talent worldwide. Not only is a flexible working environment needed to utilize evolving tech like Gen AI, but it can play a key role in retaining and nurturing the talent you already have within your company. I guess SPS Nexus can really help out in that regard?

Definitely! Companies with a strong EX strategy, supported by comprehensive workplace services and platforms like SPS Nexus, can really differentiate themselves from the competition. This helps them to attract, retain, and engage their workforce, which ultimately reduces costs associated with turnover. The more employees feel connected and supported in their workplace, the more likely they are to stay and invest time and energy into their work.

A platform like SPS Nexus can not only help you become a destination for top talent, but also cultivate a loyal workforce that is committed, productive, and advocates for the company culture.

Employee experience is the key factor to stay competitive in the talent market, and that means viewing the workplace through a more holistic lens.

SPS Nexus is a part of our Enterprise Workplace Solutions offering, which means that we as SPS appreciate that each service under that umbrella has an impact on the workplace. Considering the needs and preferences of the employees, the goals and challenges of the employers, and the opportunities and constraints of the environment as part of one critical business function lets us make wholesale improvements that not only impact EX, but also business performance and reputation.

Absolutely, EX is certainly affected by the whole workplace package. But the more we talk about SPS Nexus does make me think: There’s a lot of tech on the market that might sound similar. What makes SPS Nexus unique? And why did you develop it instead of using an existing system?

You’re right there is a lot of technology on the market that sounds similar.  We found that when we looked at the market, many applications fell into one of two categories; either they were very facilities-focused apps that were only designed for when employees were visiting an office, or they were services apps but had a closed ecosystem of technology tools. As a vendor-agnostic services provider, we needed a platform that would support employees who need services no matter where they are working while also remaining flexible to integrate with a variety of technology partners and even proprietary client applications.

Another key differentiator is in the approach that we took to platform development as a services and people-focused organization. Often the support that employees need to do their best work involves multiple, siloed systems and services. For example, to host a team meeting a manager might need to log into one application to reserve the conference room, another to register external team members for building access, a third for the room to be set up, and a fourth to order the catering – it's a lot to remember!

Forgetting a step can leave the manager stressed and the onsite services team scrambling at the last minute.

By bringing these systems together and further integrating them, we can enhance the employee experience while also improving the efficiency of our business services teams. SPS Nexus offers employees more flexibility, convenience, and support so that they can focus on their strategic work.

Thanks Nicole, it’s always great to hear your insights on the impact innovation can have on the industry! I’ve got one last question for you: what does SPS Nexus mean within the wider range of Enterprise Workplace Solutions that SPS offers?

Sure, and thank you very much for inviting me! I’m always happy to join these discussions!

We see SPS Nexus as a core part of the Enterprise Workplace Solutions offering, which means that we don’t want to tackle just one or two of the services that make up the workplace - we want to look at the bigger picture. The message we want to send is that by investing in Enterprise Workplace Solutions, you can not only improve your EX but also your business as a whole, from employee satisfaction and retention to customer satisfaction and value generation.
